US crypto exchange-traded funds recorded $610.7 million in net outflows across the five trading sessions from October 12 to 16, according to figures compiled from Farside Investors tables. The detail that stands out is the split: Ethereum funds lost more than Bitcoin products.
The numbers
- Total net outflows: $610.7 million across the five tracked categories for October 12-16.
- Ethereum funds: $320.1 million withdrawn, with BlackRock’s ETHA accounting for $299 million of that.
- Bitcoin funds: $228.4 million withdrawn, despite two positive trading sessions in the period.
- Solana, Zcash and Hyperliquid products: a combined $62.2 million in losses.
- Week-on-week: outflows fell 52.5% from $1.2863 billion during October 5-9.
Every tracked category stayed negative for the week, though Bitcoin, Ethereum and Zcash all recorded smaller losses than in the preceding period.
Why the Ethereum figure matters more than the total
Bitcoin ETF outflows are usually read as a macro story: when yields rise or risk appetite falls, money leaves crypto exposure first. That explanation does not fit as neatly when Ethereum is the weaker side of the trade.
When the second-largest asset underperforms its larger peer on flows, it points to something more specific — either relative positioning within crypto portfolios, or product-level concentration, since a single fund accounted for almost all of the Ethereum withdrawals.
The wider market picture
Bitcoin traded around $81,000 on October 17, roughly flat on the day. The ETF flow numbers are backwards-looking: they tell you what already happened during the week, not what happens next. Funds can swing from outflow to inflow in a single session, as they have repeatedly through 2026.
It is also worth separating two claims that often get merged in coverage. Outflows mean investors redeemed shares. They do not by themselves indicate anything about the underlying network’s health, and they are not a prediction.
Risk disclosure
Crypto assets are highly volatile and can lose most or all of their value. Prices quoted here are as of October 17, 2026 and will have changed. ETF flow data is compiled by third parties and subject to revision. Nothing in this article is investment advice, and no outcome is guaranteed.
