Enshrouded has emerged from early access. Keen Games released version 1.0 on October 15 for PC and PlayStation 5, and the studio has since shipped a hotfix addressing launch issues.
What 1.0 adds
- Sparkworks: a new in-game logic system that lets players connect inputs — described by the studio as a way to connect things like pressure plates and other devices — turning builds into working contraptions rather than decoration.
- Combat changes: Keen Games has published dedicated notes on combat changes and additions, with mage builds specifically called out as receiving attention.
- PlayStation 5 launch: 1.0 is the game’s arrival on PS5, joining PC.
- Early access reward: the studio published a launch FAQ covering the reward for players who supported the game during early access, along with world-related questions.
The hotfix, and why it matters
Keen Games released hotfix 1.0.0.1 (version number 1267041) on October 16. The changelog lists fixes for several issues that could cause random crashes, plus a dynamic lighting issue that caused indoor brightness problems.
Publishing a detailed hotfix changelog within a day of launch is a reasonable signal. Survival crafting games are complex systems, and a 1.0 launch across two platforms simultaneously is exactly the kind of event that surfaces edge cases. The studio also noted it had accidentally introduced a world settings issue in a previous hotfix while fixing a separate problem, and addressed it.
Why leaving early access is a real milestone here
Enshrouded launched into early access and spent a substantial period there, which is now the standard path for survival crafting games. The trade-off is well understood: early access funds development and builds a community, but it also means the launch version is the first time the game has to hold up for players who were waiting for a finished product.
For a building-focused game, 1.0 is not only about content. It is about whether the systems are stable enough that players trust their time investment — a castle that takes forty hours to build is a problem if a patch corrupts it.
A note on price
Keen Games raised the price of Enshrouded by €10 to €39.99 in September, before the 1.0 release. Anyone who bought during early access paid less. Current pricing by region should be checked on the store page for your platform, since currency and regional pricing vary and sale prices change.
What we did not do
We have not played the 1.0 release. The features, version numbers and changelog details above come from Keen Games’ own published announcements and patch notes.
