October 2026’s Biggest Game Releases — What’s Actually Worth Your Time

October 2026 is one of the heaviest release months in years, spanning massive shooters, Japanese RPGs, survival horror and indie standouts. Here are the games that matter this month, what platform they are on, and what we actually know about each.

    The big releases

    • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23) — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Activision’s latest pushes the series into darker territory. Campaign early access began October 16 for pre-orders. The game is also on Game Pass at launch.
    • Final Fantasy Resonance (October 22) — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. The first Final Fantasy game presented in HD-2D, with turn-based battles and Visions — echoes of characters from throughout the series.
    • Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (October 15) — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch. The legendary series returns with a new tale blending acrobatic action and in-depth exploration. You play as Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont.
    • Enshrouded 1.0 (October 15) — PC and PlayStation 5. The survival RPG leaves early access with the Sparkworks logic system, combat changes and an early-access reward for existing players.
    • Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen (October 9) — Nintendo Switch 2. An expanded version of the cult fantasy RPG with a new snow-covered region and new character customisation options.
    • Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition (October 16) — Nintendo Switch 2. The survival horror classic arrives on the new Nintendo hardware.

    The ones worth your attention

Beyond the biggest titles, several smaller releases are worth tracking:

    • Moadra (October 22) — Xbox Series X|S, PC. An open-world exploration game set on the sand-swept planet of Protea VI.
    • Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II (October 14) — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S. The boomer shooter sequel.
    • Ratatan (October 14/15) — PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2. A rhythm roguelike action game with over 100 characters fighting in a massive melee.
    • Shoresy: Legends of the North (October 19) — Xbox Series X|S, PC. A hockey RPG set in the Shoresy universe.

What we have and have not played

We have not played any of these games as of this writing. The descriptions above are based on official publisher announcements and store pages, not hands-on experience. Review coverage will follow as more outlets publish their assessments.

    How to choose

October is the month where a $70 purchase requires actual thought. If you are a Call of Duty player, the Game Pass launch means you can try Modern Warfare 4 without a full purchase. If you are a JRPG fan, Final Fantasy Resonance is the first HD-2D entry in the series and worth checking. And if you have been waiting for Enshrouded to leave early access, 1.0 is the version to jump into.
