What to do
- On supported Android devices, open Settings, tap Security & privacy, choose Private space under Privacy and authenticate with the device screen lock.
- Google says Private space can hide apps from the launcher, Recents, sharing surfaces such as the photo picker and Docs UI, and Settings areas such as Permission settings and Privacy dashboard.
- A Private space app can still produce notifications when the space is unlocked, and apps can be installed directly inside the space.
- Private Space is an extra privacy layer, not a substitute for a strong screen lock, device updates or checking which accounts are signed in.
Before you finish
Do not treat a single privacy or recovery feature as a complete backup or security plan. Check that the setting actually took effect, keep important files backed up separately, and avoid opening links or changing account access when the source is uncertain.
