Here Comes the Flood: Netflix Heist Film Delayed to 2027

In January 2026 Netflix unveiled its slate of original movies slated for 2026, and the Here Comes the Flood thriller earned a spot on that list. The announcement gave the picture a 2026 window, a schedule that followed five months of principal photography from November 2025 through January 2026.
According to Variety, the film will not arrive in 2026 as originally planned. Industry insiders now expect a 2027 debut, though Netflix has not confirmed an exact release date. Alongside Washington and Pattinson, the cast includes Daisy Edgar‑Jones, Danai Gurira, Sean Harris, Moisés Arias and Justin Kirk.
Director Fernando Meirelles, best known for The Two Popes, helms the project. The screenplay was written by Simon Kinberg, whose credits include X‑Men: Days of Future Past and productions such as The Martian, Deadpool and Murder on the Orient Express. The producing lineup features Meirelles, Kinberg, Audrey Chon and Samson Mucke.
The story follows a thief, a bank guard and a teller who join forces for a daring robbery. As the plan unfolds, betrayals and elaborate cons threaten to unravel the entire scheme, creating tension that keeps viewers on edge.
Denzel Washington, an Oscar‑winning actor celebrated for performances in Glory, Training Day, Philadelphia and more recent roles in Highest 2 Lowest and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, brings gravitas to the lead. He also earned a Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Gladiator II and appeared on Broadway in a production of Shakespeare’s Othello.
Robert Pattinson has kept a relentless pace in 2026. After the massive $1.1 billion haul of The Odyssey, he appears in The Drama and the upcoming biopic Primetime, which arrives in September. He will round out the year with Dune: Part Three, opening on December 18 alongside Avengers: Doomsday, and is currently shooting The Batman: Part II, slated for 2028.
While the delay’s cause remains unannounced, analysts suggest Netflix may be timing the release to maximize awards‑season consideration, positioning the film for nominations in categories such as Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.
