The Rainmaker returned for its second season on USA Network on Friday, October 16, 2026 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, with a ten-episode run. The legal drama, inspired by John Grisham’s novel, comes from Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Who is in it
Milo Callaghan returns as Rudy Baylor, alongside Lana Parrilla as Jocelyn “Bruiser” Stone, P.J. Byrne as paralegal Deck Shifflet, Madison Iseman as Sarah Plankmore, Merle Dandridge as Amanda Vonn, Richard Kind and Austin Nichols. John Slattery and Karen Bryson reprise their roles as Leo F. Drummond and Dot Black.
The two cases driving the season
Season two runs two storylines in parallel. In the first, J. Lyman Stone and Associates takes on a case where the lives of hundreds of children are at stake — and where showrunner Michael Seitzman has said winning could be as dangerous as losing. In the second, Rudy faces his former law school flame Sarah Plankmore in court at the request of her new boss Amanda Vonn, an attorney whose agenda may be concealing an international conspiracy. Separately, Bruiser’s ex-husband Tom Cassady turns to her when his legal troubles threaten both him and the star pitcher of the minor league team he coaches.
Where the story picks up
Season one ended with Rudy winning a major case. Season two opens with that verdict under appeal and Rudy suddenly famous, fielding letters and calls from every lost cause in the state. One letter comes from a teenager in juvenile detention — the one request nobody would blame him for ignoring — and Deck sees in it a puzzle worth solving, plus a way to get Rudy back to being a fighter for the underdog. Seitzman has framed the season as Rudy reminding himself who he actually is.
How to watch and catch up
New episodes air Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on USA Network. Season one is available to catch up via Fandango and the USA Network app. USA ran an all-day season one marathon on Thursday, October 15 ahead of the premiere, so viewers who missed the first season had a single-day option to get current.
Why the renewal mattered
In 2025 the series became USA Network’s most-watched freshman drama in seven years and finished the year as the top-rated new scripted series across all of cable. That performance is why a second season was ordered and why the show carries a higher profile than a typical basic-cable legal drama.
