Tether announced an investment in EFY Finance on October 13, 2026, saying the investment is part of EFY Finance’s seed round and is intended to accelerate institutional use cases for USD₮ and USA₮ across Latin America.
What EFY Finance provides
According to Tether’s announcement, EFY Finance provides stablecoin-based cross-border payments, accounts, and digital-asset custody. The company also describes on- and off-ramp infrastructure, over-the-counter services, wallets, and cards across more than 12 currencies and corridors, with settlement to local accounts in 17 countries.
Why regulated infrastructure is the focus
The announcement frames the investment around connecting stablecoins with banks, businesses, local payment networks, and cross-border settlement. EFY says it is licensed as a Digital Asset Service Provider in El Salvador and serves more than 25,000 active individual and business accounts. Those are company-provided claims and should not be treated as an independent audit of the business.
What this does not mean for consumers
An investment announcement is not a guarantee that every service is available in every country, nor does it remove the risks of stablecoins, digital-asset custody, foreign exchange, or local regulation. Users should verify licensing, fees, redemption terms, supported corridors, and consumer protections before moving funds.
The larger trend is clear: crypto companies are competing to build payment infrastructure around digital dollars, especially in regions where inflation, currency access, and cross-border settlement are major concerns. Whether that infrastructure creates durable benefits will depend on regulation, banking relationships, transparency, and how well the services work for businesses and consumers.
