Advertising Week 2026 produced a dense set of platform announcements, and the through-line is obvious: every major social platform now has an AI tool that generates or optimises advertising creative. Here is what actually shipped, and what each item means in practice.
X: X Lift and liveness checks
X introduced X Lift, which reads a website and generates ad campaigns based on what it finds. Separately, X is introducing liveness checks, triggered by suspected bot activity, either at sign-up or based on account activity. Three verification methods are being offered: phone biometrics, a short selfie video, or a hand gesture on camera.
Practical read: X Lift lowers the barrier to launching a campaign, which means more low-effort inventory competing for the same attention. The liveness checks matter more to advertisers than to users — bot reduction is the thing that makes impression counts meaningful.
Pinterest: boosting organic posts
Pinterest is offering a new collaboration method for brands and influencers. Brands can now boost existing posts from users, letting them attach paid distribution to organic interest. Users can opt out.
Practical read: this inverts the usual influencer workflow. Instead of commissioning content and hoping it performs, brands can identify content that is already performing and pay to amplify it. For creators, the guidance from Pinterest’s side is to make posts easy to attach to a brand — mention brands, highlight purchasable items, stay brand-safe.
Threads: Gems
Threads is introducing Gems, a digital badge recognising perspective, discussion and originality. Badges are chosen by automated systems and can be removed by the user.
Practical read: a badge for conversation quality is a signal about what the platform wants to reward. It has no direct monetisation function, but it indicates Threads is optimising for discussion rather than reach, which shapes what content gets surfaced.
Reddit: CRM connections and B2B
Reddit is expanding its connection with CRM tools and adding optimisation options, as it moves beyond consumer marketing into B2B.
Practical read: the CRM connection is the meaningful item. It allows campaign performance to be tied back to pipeline rather than platform-reported metrics, which is the argument B2B buyers need to justify spend.
Meta: a broader set of creative and shopping tools
- A wider rollout of Ads Creative Studio, to help advertisers identify best-performing content.
- New tools to turn still images and catalogs into video for ads.
- Agentic shopping experiences using Meta’s Muse agent, allowing purchases inside Messenger.
- Campaigns that can be run purely for new customer acquisition.
Instagram: video-first testing
Instagram is testing an option that lets users opt in to seeing Reels directly in their Home feed, with sound playing by default. Users can still switch to a traditional feed or disable it. The Edits app can now also be used to design Carousel posts.
Practical read: if Reels move into the main feed by default, the distinction between feed content and Reels content erodes. Static image strategy needs rethinking in that scenario.
The pattern worth noting
Every one of these announcements reduces the manual work of creating and targeting advertising. None of them reduce the need to have something worth saying. AI ad tools commoditise production; they do not commoditise relevance, and the platforms are simultaneously raising the volume of inventory, which makes standing out harder rather than easier.
