Best Buy’s Techtober Sale Ends This Weekend — What the Discounts Actually Cover

Best Buy’s Techtober sale is in its final days and ends on Sunday. The retailer has been running discounts across TVs, laptops, phones, headphones and appliances, and the practical question is which of those discounts are worth acting on.

    Verified examples from published coverage

These prices were reported by TechRadar during the sale, with the original prices given alongside them:

    • 55-inch TCL QM5K Mini LED TV — $499, was $799.
    • HP OmniBook X Flip with OLED display — $599, was $799.
    • Google Pixel 11 (unlocked) — $799, was $899.

Best Buy’s own marketing for the campaign advertises savings of up to 50% on tech, and the sale is promoted as a chance to shop Black Friday pricing early.

How to judge whether a Techtober deal is real

    • Check the “was” price against a third party. A discount is only a discount relative to a price someone actually paid. Retailer-listed original prices are not always the prevailing market price.
    • Compare against the model’s recent low, not its list price. A laptop that is $200 off but was $250 off three weeks ago is not at its best price.
    • Confirm the exact model number. Retailers use near-identical product names across generations with very different specifications. The TV on sale at $499 may not be the panel you read a review about.
    • Watch for bundle-only pricing. Some advertised prices require a membership, a trade-in or an add-on purchase to reach the headline number.
    • Check the return window before you buy. End-of-sale purchases often land near a holiday return-period change, and the terms may differ from the standard policy.

Why the timing matters this year

October has become a genuine deal season rather than a warm-up. Amazon’s October Prime Day event has already run, and Best Buy and Walmart have both extended promotional windows into the same period. That means the traditional Black Friday gap has narrowed, and the “wait for Black Friday” advice is less reliable than it used to be.

The counter-argument is equally worth weighing: if you do not need the item now, a sale is not a saving. The best discount on something you would not otherwise buy is still money spent.

    Expiry and availability caveat

This sale ends Sunday. Prices, stock levels and available models change during a promotional period, and the examples above may sell out or revert before the sale closes. Verify the current price on the retailer’s own product page before purchasing. Prices quoted here are as reported during the sale and were not independently verified at checkout.
