Steam Autumn Sale 2026: When It Starts, What to Expect and How to Actually Save Money

Steam sales follow a predictable calendar, and the Autumn Sale is the second-biggest event of the year after Summer Sale. Valve has not yet announced 2026 dates, but the pattern from recent years gives a reliable window: the sale has launched in late November, around Thanksgiving, and run for roughly a week.

    What the pattern tells us

The Autumn Sale has landed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in the US for multiple consecutive years, running through the following week. That would put the 2026 start around November 25, ending in early December. Treat this as an informed estimate, not a confirmed date — Valve always announces the actual dates a week or two in advance.

The deeper point about sale pricing

A Steam discount is only meaningful relative to the game’s own price history. Valve’s store pages show the current discount percentage, but they do not show whether the "original" price is the game’s real historical price or an inflated list price that was never charged.

The tool that answers this is SteamDB, which tracks price history per game. Before buying anything on sale, look it up there. If the "discounted" price matches the game’s price from three months ago, the discount is nominal. If it is genuinely lower than it has ever been, it is real.

What to actually do in the meantime

    • Add games to your wishlist now. Steam notifies you when a wishlisted game goes on sale. This is the single most useful thing you can do before any sale starts. The wishlist also lets you track price changes without visiting each store page individually.
    • Ignore the flash deals. The rotating daily deals create urgency that is not warranted. Almost every game in the sale appears at its best price at some point during the week, so there is no benefit to buying early unless you genuinely want to play immediately.
    • Buy the game you will play, not the cheapest thing available. A $2 game you never install costs more than a $15 game you finish. The discount percentage is not a measure of value; the price relative to your actual interest is.
    • Check the package. Some deals apply to bundles that include DLC you do not want. Read what is in the package before adding to cart, and compare the bundle price against buying the base game and DLC separately during the sale.
    • Set a spending limit before the sale starts. Steam sales are designed to make you spend more than you intended. A fixed budget prevents the accumulation of games you will never play.

What we do not know yet

Valve has not confirmed 2026 dates, discount depths, or featured titles. The historical pattern is strong but not a guarantee. When Valve announces the actual dates, expect coverage here.
