Scarlett Johansson in Talks to Join The Batman – Part II
The Batman – Part II, the highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 film, may feature a surprising addition to its cast. According to Deadline, Scarlett Johansson is in final negotiations to join the project, which is set to begin principal photography in 2026. This news comes after Nexus Point News initially reported on her potential casting.
Plot Details and Casting
While the details of Johansson’s role are still under wraps, it’s rumoured that she will play a DC character. The film’s plot is also being kept secret, but it’s known that it will take place shortly after the events of The Penguin TV show. The Batman – Part II will feature returning cast members, including Colin Farrell’s Penguin, Andy Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon. However, it’s been reported that Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman may not be part of the sequel, although this has yet to be confirmed by the filmmakers or Warner Bros.
Director Matt Reeves’ Vision
In a recent interview with Variety, Matt Reeves expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the script, co-written with Mattson Tomlin, will take Bruce Wayne to new and unexplored places. Reeves also mentioned that Robert Pattinson, who will reprise his role as the Dark Knight, is “super excited” about the project. The film’s story will reportedly be more expansive than the first installment, with Reeves aiming to “reach farther and do even more” than before.
Release and Production
The Batman – Part II is scheduled to open in theaters on October 1, 2027, and will be one of two major DC superhero films released that year, alongside James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow. The film’s production is set to begin in spring 2026, with Johansson expected to shoot The Exorcist before joining the project. As the release date approaches, fans can expect more information about the plot and casting to be revealed.
