Chaos Theory Retcons Death Of Original Jurassic Park Villain Lewis Dodgson

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Retcons Lewis Dodgson’s Death

The penultimate episode of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory has introduced a significant plot twist, retconning the death of Lewis Dodgson, the original villain of the Jurassic Park franchise. This development occurs three years after his initial death in Jurassic World Dominion. A brief scene in the episode “Lights Out” reframes the circumstances surrounding his demise, providing a new perspective on the character’s fate.

Lewis Dodgson, the main antagonist of Chaos Theory season 4, has undergone significant character development since his minor role in the first Jurassic Park film, 32 years prior. Although the show does not depict his actual death, it does provide insight into the events leading up to it. This retcon marks another significant alteration to a Jurassic Park character, deviating from the original book series. The change is particularly notable, as it occurs after the fact, following his initial death scene in a previous Jurassic World installment.

The conclusion of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory features the Nublar Six, Bumpy, and Smoothie escaping Biosyn Valley, thanks to the intervention of the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex. This escape occurs mere hours after Lewis Dodgson’s death. In the second-to-last episode, Darius Bowman spots Dodgson on a security camera, entering the Biosyn Hyperloop subway system, moments before his demise.

Dodgson’s Death in Jurassic World Dominion

Earlier in the season, Dodgson introduces Kenji and Sammy to the Hyperloop, which ultimately leads them into a trap, putting them in the path of hungry Dilophosaurus. Ironically, these same dinosaurs are responsible for Dodgson’s own death. The actual scene depicting his demise takes place in Jurassic World Dominion, where he serves as the primary villain. The scene begins with Dodgson entering the Hyperloop and coming face-to-face with a Dilophosaurus, leading to his eventual death.

Prior to his death scene, Dodgson attempts to incinerate transgenic locusts and flees with a briefcase containing dinosaur embryos. The events in Chaos Theory provide a new timeline, suggesting that these scenes occur between his trap for Kenji and Sammy and his appearance on the security camera. This retcon maintains a coherent character arc across the movie and TV show.

Lewis Dodgson as the Original Movie Villain

Lewis Dodgson was initially introduced as the main rival of John Hammond in the first Jurassic Park film. He enlists the help of Dennis Nedry to steal secrets about Hammond’s venture for the benefit of his own company, Biosyn. Although Nedry’s mission fails, Dodgson’s character becomes more prominent in the sequel novel, The Lost World, and eventually becomes the main villain in the 2022 film, Jurassic World Dominion. With the conclusion of Chaos Theory, it appears that Dodgson’s story has finally come full circle.
