Alan Ritchson’s Navy SEAL Movie Adds Peaky Blinders Star Joe Cole to Cast
Alan Ritchson’s upcoming Navy SEAL movie has added a major star to its cast. Joe Cole, known for his role as John Shelby in the popular series Peaky Blinders, has joined the movie alongside Ritchson. The film, which is currently untitled, is based on the true story of Navy SEAL Mike Thornton and his heroic actions during the final days of the Vietnam War.
The movie follows Thornton, who will be played by Ritchson, as he leads a desperate last stand after five soldiers become trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam. Outnumbered by 150 enemy troops, they must fight through relentless gunfire before staging a perilous escape across the South China Sea. Cole’s role in the movie has not been disclosed, but it is believed that he will play one of the five soldiers who were trapped with Thornton.

True Story Behind the Movie
The movie is based on the extraordinary true story of Mike Thornton, who carried a critically wounded lieutenant and another soldier tied to him, swimming for hours through hostile waters to reach safety. This act of heroism earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor. The film will be a reunion between Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes, who previously worked together on the upcoming sci-fi action movie War Machine.
The screenplay for the movie is co-written by Ritchson, Mark Semos, and Jason Hall, who is known for his work on American Sniper and Thank You for Your Service. The movie is produced by Sylvester Stallone via his Balboa Productions banner.

Joe Cole’s Experience Playing Military Roles
Joe Cole is an English actor who is perhaps best known for his role as John Shelby in Peaky Blinders. He has also starred in the 2017 film Thank You for Your Service, where he played Private First Class Billy Waller, a soldier who returns home from the Iraq War and suffers from PTSD. Cole’s experience playing military veterans in Peaky Blinders and Thank You for Your Service makes him a perfect choice to play a soldier in Amazon’s Navy SEAL movie alongside Alan Ritchson.
