Avengers: Secret Wars has pushed its filming start into 2027 with a new production target, according to Hollywood trade reporting cited by Netflix-focused news outlet Netflix Junkie in October 2026.
Where the film sits in the slate
Marvel Studios has Avengers: Doomsday scheduled for December 18, 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars for December 17, 2027. Polygon’s tracking of the studio’s plans describes Secret Wars as closing out Phase 6 and ending what Marvel calls the Multiverse Saga, with the Russo brothers returning to direct.
The reported delay means the film is now targeting a 2027 production start, which would put pressure on its December 2027 release date. Neither Marvel Studios nor Disney had formally announced a schedule change as of this writing, so treat the new production target as reporting rather than confirmation.
Why the schedule is shifting
Marvel has slowed its output deliberately after a run of underperforming releases, with just one MCU film slated for 2027 — Avengers: Secret Wars. The studio’s announced plans stretch into 2029, including a new X-Men film on May 5, 2028, a Ghost Rider film on July 28, 2028 and Black Panther 3 on December 15, 2028.
What we did not do
We have not confirmed the delay with Marvel Studios or Disney directly. The reported production shift comes from the trade reporting cited below and could change.
