DC’s Clayface Opens October 23 in Theaters as Body Horror Takes Over Gotham

DC Studios’ Clayface opens in North American theaters on October 23, 2026, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Internationally the film begins releasing from October 21. The film was originally slated for September 11 before moving to its current date.

    What the film is

Clayface is a body-horror thriller directed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil) from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, with a story by Flanagan. Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, a rising actor whose face is disfigured and who turns to an experimental treatment that restores his appearance — with consequences for his grip on reality. Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, David Dencik and Eddie Marsan also star. James Gunn and Peter Safran produce alongside Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris.

    How it fits the DCU

The film deliberately avoids Gotham’s familiar Gothic skyline, taking viewers into the city’s criminal underbelly instead, and features no Batman. Director and cast interviews have described it as an R-rated story that stands apart in tone from other DC Studios projects.

Clayface takes the October 23 slot vacated by Warner Bros.’ Remain, which moved to 2027. Also opening that weekend are an untitled Jordan Peele project from Universal and the Rosamund Pike thriller Wife and Dog.
