Meta unveiled a new ad format called Ads Super Burst, letting advertisers choose a 3 to 24 hour window in which their ads receive what the company describes as “TV-like scale.” The company is also testing First Impression Ads, which appear first when users open the app, and Reels Trending Ads that place content alongside popular posts in real time.
Your Algorithm expands to the main feed
Facebook users will soon be able to add topics they want to see more of — or remove topics from their feed. After clicking “interested” or “not interested” on individual posts, the app may follow up with questions, and users can respond in natural language to describe their preferences.
Instagram has been expanding the same Your Algorithm feature beyond Reels and Explore to the main feed. The practical implication for marketers: content that clearly matches a niche, audience or recurring theme may have a better chance of reaching the right people when users can tune their feeds by interest.
Other October changes
Reels creation tools now let users keep a reference video on screen while filming, as long as the reference is at least 90 seconds long. The Edits app gained clickable links on audio, topic discovery, brand-style “Kits” with custom colours and fonts, and 50 new video effects. WhatsApp added guest calling, letting people without an account join group calls of up to 32 people.
One change worth flagging for business accounts: Meta’s terms of service, effective October 30, state that using business features means consenting to Meta’s web scrapers collecting data from your site, with no opt-out currently available, according to Nieman Lab as reported by PR Daily.
What we did not do
We did not test these ad products or verify Meta’s claims about performance. Availability varies by market and account type, and several features are in testing rather than general release.
