Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 Netflix Premiere and Update 2.5

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix on October 20, 2026, with all ten episodes available to stream. The second installment comes from CD Projekt Red and Japanese animation studio TRIGGER, set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

What is new this season

Four years after the first series, the new season follows an all-new cast of characters rather than returning to David Martinez’s story. The intertwining stories centre on a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent and a Snake Nation netrunner, telling what CD Projekt Red describes as a raw tale of vengeance and redemption.

The new installment is directed by Kai Ikarashi, with Kanno Ichigo as lead character designer. Returning collaborators include Masahiko Otsuka and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as showrunner, story writer and producer. The animation style has been reimagined from the first season.

The game update alongside it

On the day of the premiere, CD Projekt Red announced the Edgerunners 2 Update — Update 2.5 — for Cyberpunk 2077. The free update is set to release on October 22, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release to follow shortly. More details were scheduled to be shared on October 21, 2026 during a special episode of REDstreams, followed by official patch notes.

Early critical reaction

Reviews are mixed rather than unanimous. IGN gave the season a 9.0, calling it “a spectacular season of television” even if it does not feel as monumental as its predecessor, while Ready Steady Cut scored it 40, arguing that in trying to be too different the season ends up scattershot. That spread is worth knowing before you commit to a full ten-episode run.
