Nintendo Switch Sports Resort: Switch 2 Launch (October 22, 2026)

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is available now on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s own news page confirms the release date as October 22, 2026, and the game is exclusive to the newer console rather than the original Switch.

The game returns to Wuhu Island, the resort setting last used by the Wii Sports series, and builds the same motion-controlled sports formula around Joy-Con 2 controllers.

What is in the game

Alongside returning staples such as tennis and volleyball, Nintendo has added new sports to the lineup. Skateboarding and finger sumo are among the new events, and the game supports changing your sportswear and hairstyle between sessions.

Nintendo’s store listing for the Switch 2 edition confirms the game as a digital purchase on the system’s own storefront. Physical editions were not listed in the materials we checked, so if you were planning to buy a disc or cartridge, check the product page for your region before ordering.

Why the Switch 2 exclusivity matters

This is a first-party Nintendo title that does not run on the original Switch. If you own only the older console, this is not an upgrade path for an existing library — it is a reason to buy the new hardware.

For anyone weighing a console purchase, it is worth being precise about what is confirmed. This is one announced first-party title with a release date, not evidence that the wider Switch 2 launch library is fully confirmed. Treat other “coming soon” claims about the platform as reporting until Nintendo announces them.

Our Xbox Game Pass November 2026 lineup is a useful comparison point if you are deciding between a new console and a subscription library this fall.

What we did not do

We did not play the game, and we did not verify frame rates, load times or controller accuracy ourselves. Everything here comes from Nintendo’s published product and news pages.
